Why a Digital Spring Cleaning Makes Sense

Why a Digital Spring Cleaning Makes Sense

Do you know that feeling when your smartphone is overflowing—endless photos, a chaotic email inbox, and the constant message “Storage Full”? While we spruce up our homes in spring, our digital lives often remain untouched. Yet this is exactly where tidying up would do you good.

A digital spring cleaning not only brings order to your device, but also to your mind. You save time, find your favorite photos faster, and create space for new memories. At the same time, you even make a small contribution to sustainability—because stored data also consumes energy.

The approach is simpler than you think: first gain an overview, then reduce consistently, and finally create a structure that suits you. Even small everyday routines help maintain order in the long term.

Whether photos, apps, emails, or contacts—a mindful approach to your digital content creates more clarity, less stress, and a really good feeling. And honestly: it’s simply wonderful when you can enjoy your photos again instead of just collecting them.

In this article in the NZZ, I talk with Philip Gollmer about why all of this makes sense.

Spring cleaning: Why tidying up feels so good

Spring cleaning: Why tidying up feels so good

With spring, not only does the sun return, but so does the desire for a breath of fresh air in your own four walls. The article “Tidying up feels good” from the Neue Zürcher Zeitung by Philipp Gollmer shows impressively why spring cleaning is far more than just an annoying chore.

Together with psychologist Sandra Jankowski, I had the opportunity to explain why order means so much more than simply storing things neatly in cupboards. It is about letting go, becoming more aware—and yes, also about being happy.

I see it time and again with my clients: those who declutter not only create space at home, but also in their minds. Spring cleaning then becomes a small liberation. And do not worry—it does not all have to be perfect. It is not about throwing everything away radically, but about consciously deciding what may stay.

So if you are currently considering how you can make your wardrobe, your cellar, or simply your life a little lighter: feel free to read the article—and perhaps you will feel inspired to get started yourself. I would be happy to help you.

Because: tidying up feels good—and not only in spring.
